Ugh! It runs like crap. Is there a fix? Should I run it in XP
compatibility mode ? I saw where there was a 64 bit upgrade
but apparently that is not available now ???
It runs great under XP Pro on the same machine ( dual boot ).

| I tried the xml edit suggested on a couple of sites, and then
Skyrim would not start at all. Win7 is still Vista. I had to roll
over to XP to fix the XML file and then copy it to 7. What a
nightmare.

Not having a fundamental understanding of how permissions work beyond
XP circa 2001 does indeed sound like a nightmare. Considered a skill
upgrade lately? |

Skyrim? Skyrim? Skyrim?
I thought you were discussing ARCANIA under Win7-64?
Did I miss a posting in this thread, or did you just have a huge
brain-flop??

Arcania Arcania Arcania ... that should hold for a few minutes.
It's the old G4 / 32 bit .. and it lags badly in W7, but not
under XP on same box ??? The XML edit is nearly
impossible under W7 because of security settings in
both the OS and the game. I had to move the xml
file to XP to edit it, and I don't think W7 liked that.
The XML editor in W7 WON'T EDIT. It is just a viewer
no matter if I'm admin or not. ???
There's another remote possibility .. suggested by
Microsoft ( and Jowood ). They supposedly produced
a 64-bit version of Arcania, but their site is gone.
I want to make it run under W7, just to get the
experience of hacking W7 so that some day it
might become useful to me. What a total POS.

I have run Arcania on XP 32 bit svc pack 3 & Windows 7 64 bit.
On the same machine with Dual core & recently Quad core Intel CPU's
Radeon HD 5870 Graphics .
I have seen no difference between XP & W7 .
Remember in W7 we have the availability of DX 11 graphics
whilst XP will be only DX9.
Is you problem there ?

Sparktakoose poked helplessly at the 12v power outlet in the 2012 BMW,
wondering in marvel why sticking his finger into it did not provoke
the vehicle to move forward. All these other needless features were
just clutter placed their by fools!
The same technique had worked for him back in the days when all he
needed to do to wake the horse up and propell him forward was a simple
"proctologist hello there" as he liked to call the old finger in the
anus.
How was it that modern technology was not to the level of productivity
he had already established with his current partner? Did they take
him for a fool? |

I don't think the install detects much of anything. It even
says it is installing DX9 .. and C++5 runtime. I wonder if
the problem is in translation .. Dx9 to Dx11 during the
game running under supervision of W7 ???? That would
be a world of wasted time. When I run the "compatibility
check", W7 says the application is incompatible and
suggests I go to the web chat groups. JLewis says his
Steam version is fixed ??????? Probably so, and I bet
it is the 64 bit version. Wonder if I could ask "Steam"
about that ?

I agree. I miss it too. There was a time when I could go in
a pub and a lady would bring me a groggen of ale, and then
sit in my lap whilst I patted her bottom. I'm afraid those days
are gone.

COW-A-BONGA, RIN! I fixed it. There's a "patch". I downloaded it
and it installed ... and my frame rate is 30+ and smooth as silk.
I went up to max resolution .. 1920 .. and still runs great ??????
Have no idea what that patch does, but it's also the only one
out there.

Arcania (Steam version) runs perfectly fine on my Win7-64 Ultimate
machine. Must be your incompetent processor and/or graphics card.
Have never bothered to run it under XP.
Are any graphics options user-available in Win7 that are not available
under XP?? If so, either turn them off or tweak to minimum.

Not really, they just applied User Account Control to her bottom
starting with the release of Vista, making it inaccessible to some. |

I didn't say "fixed". I said that the Steam release works just fine
in Win7-64 (without any action by me). Whether it is the 32-bit or the
64bit executable, or patched or not, I don't know or care..... Just
download the Steam version when it next goes on sale. Don't Worry....
Be Happy.
