I've been watching that a while.. Considering if maybe it
might be a worthwhile bump over FSX..
But.. Considering that the price tag is $500, I've kinda decided to
stick with FSX for now being as it's doing what I need it to do.
From what I've heard, that sim is kinda like FSX on steroids.
I hadn't heard about the free one month demo though.. I'll have to try
that just to see what it's like.

Ouch! $10.00 per month after the trial period. Better be good.
Registration form requires name and address and telephone number, etc. I
just got a little creative. I reside in Anytown, Ca, with a phone of
999-999-9999. No credit card information is required for the demo,
just a "secret code" of copilotmag

It has worked okay for me. Just received my download link. Wow! 2.41 gigs.
My download manager reports 25 minutes to download at my cable speed of
12megs this morning.

Looks like a good'un. It is, apparently, FSX debugged and optimised for
Windows 7 (64 bits) on multi-cored processors. The retail price of 500
bucks for a user-license + a month for a Developers' subscription of $10
is, maybe, a bit steep for a lot of present day simmers.

Dontcha just lurve their idea of a EULA :-

> As provided in our End User License Agreement, the Prepar3D application is not to be used,
offered, sold or distributed through markets or channels for use as a
personal/consumer entertainment product.

Any guesses for how many of us MSFS will observe these terms for any
longer than, ooh ...., two or three nano-seconds?

Still it is good that MSFS is in safe hands for, probably a very long
time to come.

The download I received apparently was incomplete. Trying again from the
other, slower, server. There were two data.cab files in my d/l. data1.cab
and data15.cab. The installer balked when looking for data11, and data12. I
cancelled that install and awaiting the other download to complete. Much
slower.

Second d/l no better. Get the same error message of missing file.

I can look into the data15.cab file. I see microsoft gauges, such as
fs9_clock.cab, and fs9gps.cab, also all the effects looks very familiar as
well. There are the jettruck effects and the loopylarry effects.
Guess I'll try to contact support at Lockheed and see what is up with the
installer.

I've looked at all the pictures, etc, and if there is some huge
advantage over FSX, I'm not sure what it is. I don't care about
diving underwater in a flight sim..
But I look for cockpit images, and really none are to be found.
When I look at a sim, the cockpit is #1. Everything else except
maybe the flight model is secondary.
It's quite possible that they are good, but why no images?
I'm sort of getting the feeling that most are basically the same
FSX cockpits. And the couple of cockpit images they do show, and
using third party Capt. Sim airplanes.

The C130 in that instance, and the cockpit, although not too
bad, is not near in the league of say the 737NGX.
And they show images of scenery.. Lots of it the Orbx
scenery which works fine in FSX.
So at this point, I'm not seeing a whole lot to lure me
to the Lockheed side. From them, I was expecting it to be
more technical and a hard core training sim. But they seem
as much interested in fancy eye candy as Microsoft..
For a much higher price tag. So if I would be ending up
using a third party aircraft made for FSX in this sim, I'm not
seeing much point in it.

Heck, I only paid $29.99+tax for the current Gold Edition
FSX I'm running right now, which includes all the service
packs and Acceleration. I've got a larger share of the
outlay in the 737NGX.. But.. I think the plane makes the
sim.. Not the eye candy, or to me, gimmicks like being able to
go swimming on your flight sim. :/

Then again, maybe there are some good aspects they are afraid
to show. I dunno.. I'd be wanting to see some cockpit images
before I plunked down the $500 + a monthly $10.. I don't like
that monthly fee too much. I want to fly the sim, not marry it. :/

Probably the last post about this from me I guess.

I just received an email from them that stated information in my
registration was 'INVALID' and they were removing my invalid account. guess
they did not like the 999-999-9999 phone number. That is fine with me. I
get all the nuisance phone calls I want anyway.

Doubtful I am going to be needing it anyway since I can not get it
installed.

I just leaned from a friend you MUST download 3 different files, totaling 8
to 9 gigs. Guess that is where the other cab files are. Duh on me!

Hi Danny,

For those of us that don't get Computer Pilot, any hint of the Code,
mate?

I told you that copilotmag is secret. How could you ask me to violate their
trust in me?

Get a Magicjack do-hickey for $19.00 per year and use that number. If
there is no answer the call is forwarded to a voice mail which is sent
to whichever junk email addy you create as an AVI. If you want you can
actually plug a phone into it and call someone or receive calls.

I got a number for the dog rescue operation so I get the voicemail and
can call back when needed. It's worth 19.00 a year to me just to give
me a tel number that is valid but not monitored when I don't want to
hear any ringing and not traceable. It's also convenient when traveling
with your laptop if you aren't using Skype or something similar. Plug it
into the online computer and calls to the USA and Canada are free.

I have a few friends that use Magicjack, too. But that is a clever and
creative usage for sure.
