Post subject: What Does Your Guild Do for Fun? Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)
Background: My SO was one of two RLs in our guild. He didn't get along
with the other RL (who filled his raids with non-guildies first) and
further had an argument with our GM over the weekend. To make a long
story short, upon logging in on Tuesday, we discovered we had been
booted from the guild (me pre-emptively, being the SO).
To my surprise, 90% of our former guild's raiders/players/alts
promptly /gquit and joined the new guild my SO and I formed later
Tuesday evening. Since then, more former guildies have been joining as
they /gquit, and members have been inviting people they met during
questing, etc.
So now we have a three-day-old guild with 55 people in it. One of our
members already set up a Vent for us, and people donated enough gold
that we have four bank tabs already.
So I'm wondering what your guild does for fun? Or things you enjoy?
I'd really like to retain these people who have shown such loyalty,
but we also have a number of toons in their (character level) 20s and
30s, and since we're not a levelling guild, I wonder what we can do to
help them or make things fun, since we don't have many alts to help
level with them.

That sounds great. My current (raiding) guild is also new (about a
month old), so we don't really have any 'traditions' yet. We did run
Heroic ToC 10 the other night: it was the weekly, and not one of our
scheduled nights. The quest finishes at the second fight, but for fun
we continued through to the end, even though most of us didn't
actually need the drops.
An older guild I was in would have weekly lotteries, usually in
Goldshire, for nice items and/or 100 gold from the bank. Doesn't sound
like much, but for a level 20 in TBC its was a nice prize. We also did
the occasional raid on Horde sites, and pose for group photos. One
time two members who were engaged in RL held a wedding of their toons,
and we all dressed up and went to the temple in Darnassus for the
ceremony, followed by a raid on Crossroads to celebrate.

We have raid night on Mondays, and we do the weekly on Thursday nights.
A lot of times after those raids, since we are usually together, we
will send a message out to level 70's in the guild and others we see
that we are doing a level 70 "training" raid and head over to the
Outlands and run some of the older level 70+ 25 and 40 man instances.
The raid leader explains that it is all in fun, and its to get the new
70's some experience in what raiding is, how to do it, etc. They are
told not to worry about mistakes, and just have a blast. It's also a
chance to get some purple 70 gear drops which you don't see a lot of
people wear anymore (that'll turn some heads upon inspections), but
which will be beneficial to them all through the 70's. All 80's in the
instance are told (and warned) to pass on all item drops and that only
the 70's can need & greed on them. We have a blast...Other things
involve the usual after raid "hey, as long as we're together, anyone
want to go storm <random horde city - outpost>?, which we do. The other
night 15 of us stormed the horde outpost in Strangletorn vale,
commandeered the blimp and stood on the aft deck, typed "/wave" said
cheese and took pictures (screen shots). We hid below deck and
surprised the hell out of the group on the other side waiting for the
blimp. lol
A few weeks ago after a successful raid, 18 of us went to Dalaran, got
naked except for our guild tabbard, got put in single file line by the
raid leader and were told to target the person in front of us then type
/follow. We went on a parade shouting, waving, etc and the like through
Dalaran. We stopped in front of the Horde area and gave rude gestures,
farts, etc... then went back and had a party lighting fireworks and
Blizzards, etc.
I would say just to let everyone know that you are going to have some
fun if you want to stick around after the raid and just come up with fun
, screwy, unexpected things to do.

I should have read your last paragraph more closely - My response was in
regard to level 70's still leveling up....As far as the lower 20 and
30's, I would say that you should keep in close contact with them and
offer help in anyway that you can to make their experience the best.
Anything from running them through lower instances (DM, etc) if they are
looking to level fast to if they are having a problem with a particular
quest. The biggest thing from personal experience that I found is that
a lot of guild uppers (leaders who are 80) tend largely ignore those
under 60. When they hit 60 they seem to catch the attention, but only
in the sense that they watch your progress, then when they hit 70 they
start interacting more with them, etc, etc. I would say that if you do
any fun silly things (guild parties, dancing things) that aren't going
to kill them , offer to include them. Mages in the guild give em a port
to Dalaran for free, then give them rides around in Motorcycles if you
have any. That sort of thing.... It would have made me feel more like
"one of the gang" than to hear it, watch it, or read it in the
chat...That sort of thing...

One of the most important things you can do, as a guild leader, is to
set a focus for your guild, and stick to that focus.
You cannot be all things to all people.
People who are leveling have completely different goals than raiders.
If you cater to one side, you'll alienate the other side, because
their goals are completely different. The same is true for PvP vs
raiding.
You have to pick a focus, one that the majority of your guild agrees
with, and stick to that focus. Because that's why they are here, and
not somewhere else.
As for the others, let them know up front what the focus of the guild
is going to be, and that they should not expect anything else. I know
that sounds harsh, but you will NOT have time to do anything else.
It's better to let them gquit now, than for them to incite drama
later, because they felt mislead about the guild's focus.

my guild has been together over 4 years. we have a great group of very
loyal players. I think the thing they appreciate most is how fair we
are. we do our best to rotate guildies into raid runs and our 80s will
try to help out other players level when they can. we also pass the
loot around trying to make sure it goes to whoever has the greatest
need.
For fun, we will run through level 60 & 70 raids trying to see how
many mobs we can agg. it also helps toons of that level get gear.
Getting group achievements is fun too, like Sarth with 3 drakes up.
Another thing I did was create a contest where the guildies submitted
a name for a new shaman I was leveling. The winner got 500G and I
changed the name of that toon. Now I am having guildies submit funny
screen shots that I post to our web site and giving prizes of gold and
rare pets.

For fun...
On my horde guild, with friend of mine, we organised some "hordympics
games", with several little games.
Me make several teams, and each game give some points to the team. Each
member of the teams wears a colored shirt (no tabard or torso armor).
The first one was always to find a gnome named "gnomympic" with an enigma
to resolve, like a small poem that give clues to the place where the gnome
is hidden. The first team to set fire to the gnome win.
Other games can be...
.... jumping from the gobelin gangway above the lake in Stonetalon
Mountains, into the lake. There is already someone in the lake, and you
have to jump the closer to win.
.... going to Orgrimmar and finding random people to make the longer line of
bodies on the ground.
.... doing the more damage to a level 60 alliance char (one of my alt)
without killing him, in one blow.
.... each group must choose a song and adapt it to the wow universe, and
then sing in one the roof of the bank in Orgrimmar.
.... and other silly games.
Another thing we did in the BC time, when we were 70 and farming Karazhan :
the Kara's Cup. We made two teams, the first one the kill the prince (or
the team that is the farther in the instance at midnight) win.
Races : everybody on level 20 mount, no speed boost allowed. The "leader"
has a raid symbol and is on the 100% mount, so the racers are always behind
him, and we follow. We don't know what the map of the race is. There are
maybe 5-7 races in one evening.

hmmm - some good ideas I might steal....
We did another I forgot about....20-25 guild were on and we went to
Dalaran, got on our mounts and hovered over the alliance bank far above.
We got close together and one by one dismounted. Funny as hell to
the people below when bodies start raining down for 30 seconds making a
pile.. The comments from people were hilarious....A ton of "WTF?" to
"hey - it's raining men!!" and someone else "..and women too!" We were
all doing this on vent too, so we were crying laughing... Last week
after the weekly raid (which for us was the "X-? Deconstructor" - can't
remember exact name) but we had to kill Leviathan and the towers before
hand. While the leaders were out summoning a few replacements at the
stone after a couple had to leave for an emergency, 4 of us had a blast
with the motorcycles. The drivers were lined up like joust and the goal
as the passenger was to click on the other motorcycle as it passed and
see if you could fly from one side car to the other and how much hang
time you get. lol Then my sob driver got the idea to take me out to
the battle field area with the choppers coming in and eject my ass out
of the side car...nice guy...lmao. They came back and res'd me, so was
all in good fun - had a blast!

Lowbie raids on the other faction's towns are fun. Or even on cities
just seeing who can make it in the futherest (is that a word?) without
stealth. Maybe offer a reward for the winner
Pre-made BGs also rock IMO - you can seriously own with vent and
coordination.
The guild that PvPs together, stays together *grins*
But if PvE is more your thing then a treasure hunt can be fun. Have
officers create alts and position them around the world. Then give hints
to everyone else. The first to find all the alts gets a cool prize,
second some gold maybe, third a lifetime supply of coal Or whatever.

Best of luck! Let us know how it goes

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
Guild name surprise - Members of my guild got a surprise over the weekend when we logged in to find our guild name changed to <Blizzard Europe - Game M> http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/f4a8c7e106.jpg I've no idea how that happened - I imagine someone at Blizza...
Guild heirlooms - Let's say I buy a heirloom cloak from guild vendor. Can I then use it on a toon which is not on my guild? I guess so since they are BOA, but better safe than sorry
