Post subject: Where should I Currently be Raiding? Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)
I am not even sure what all the raids are that are avaialble. I could
look them up but will opt out of that for the condensed version stated
by anyone who chooses to state it.
I se that there is something available in Baradin Hold. I assume that
this is similar to the types of quick raids that one could do in
Wintergrasp. Is it a single boss at this time?
Is there aother quick raid at this time that is on par with the
Obsidium Sanctum?
I take it there is a larger raid available but only portion of the
instance?
So what kind of item levels would be needed? I am at 345 right now
with my Holy Priest. I think my wife is about the same with her rogue.
It is quick raids like these that are tempting to do.

In addition to the comments that John made in his reply, I would suggest
Baradin Hold (BH) as your first foray into cata raiding.
The reason so is such:
1) realativly fast instance for now (1 boss), however the interior of
the place looks like it can be expanded to 3 or more in the future.
(btw - anyone figure out whose poor big puppy is locked in his cage in
the middle and what his purpose is other than decoration?) there are
only 3 mini-trash mobs to down before you get to him. These seem to
almost be a coordination test for the group before taking on the boss
(make sure the tanks trade off, dps aggro control, etc.)
2) Simple mechanics for a raid boss. Split into two 5 man dungeon teams
(tank, heals, 3 dps each) Tanks take turns taunting off each other and
heals must heal and despell. dps have it easy - just stack on your tank
and hit boss. When he throws fire at 70 & 30%, everyone run away and
avoid fire, then stack back on your tank.
3) Have recount or other meter running to see where you fall in
afterwards regarding heals or dps. On a single boss instance like this,
you'll get a feel for where you sit before getting in over your head and
committing for a long evening with BoT or the others.
Your level gear should be fine, but dps rule of thumb is dps needs to
average 10K dps to suceed as he starts off from the first pull with a 5
minute timer before enraging, if you are sitting around there you should
be g2g...

Yes, it is very similar to the Wintergrasp raid. One boss currently.
I have noticed, though, that he seems to much prefer dropping PVP loot.

There are several bosses that are accessible after killing only a few
trash mobs, but they are nowhere near as easy as Sartharion was. They
are only "quick" if everyone has seen them and already knows what to do.
A fresh group going in to these bosses will have their work cut out for
them.
> I take it there is a larger raid available but only portion of the

There are four raids at the moment: Baradin Hold in Tol Barad (1 boss),
Temple of the Four Winds in Uldum (2 bosses), Bastion of Twilight in
Twilight Highlands (5 bosses), and Blackwing Descent (6 bosses) in
Blackrock Mountain.
All bosses are available; there is no "gating" as we saw in the first few
months of ICC. (One boss in BoT is only available on Heroic mode.)

That's fine for beginning raids, as long as you're not "cheating" by
using more than a piece of two of PVP gear.

If Orion's server is like mine, whenever his faction has control of
Tol Barad people should be forming pickup 10 and 25-man raids for
Baradin Hold. (Heck, he should consider starting his own.) Very easy
fight, with the hardest job for healers who will be constantly
dispelling.
> I have noticed, though, that he seems to much prefer dropping PVP loot.
Sadly, yes. The usual ratio is four or five PvP pieces out of six for
the 25-man raids I organize. This is because Argaloth only drops PvE
legs and gloves, but can drop PvP legs, gloves, trinkets, cloaks,
belts, etc.

Agreed. My rule of thumb is that any player who is able to complete
heroics without unusual effort is welcome.

Below are the dates of our first kills. If there are multiple bosses
listed, they appear in the order they were killed. This should tell
you the relative difficulty of the bosses. Also note that we raid 3
days a week, and have not extended a raid lock so far.
Dec 28: Argaloth
Dec 31: Magmaw, Halfus Wyrmbreaker
Jan 3: Conclave of Wind, Valiona and Theralion
Jan 12: Ascendant Council, Omnotron Defense System
Jan 21: Maloriak
Jan 24: Chimaeron, Atramedes
Feb 14: Cho'gall
Feb 25: Al'Akir
Nefarian is still alive, which means no heroic kills
Notice how it took 2 weeks to kill Maloriak and 2 weeks to kill
Cho'gall. No other bosses so far have taken more than a week.

4 Raids in T11.
Baradin Hold - 1 boss
Blackwing Descent - 6 bosses
Bastion of Twilight - 4 bosses
Throne of the Four Winds - 2 bosses
Raid difficulty is linear across the whole tier. This means that on a
rating scale of 1 to 6 with 1 being the simplest/easiest, you would have
approximately the following difficulty rating for each boss fight:

One more important point: 25man is MUCH more forgiving than 10man,
especially for lesser geared raids.

I've only attempted these three bosses so maybe I don't have the necessary
perspective, but I'd rate Magmaw and Omnotron considerably tougher than
Argaloth.

Just an interesting anecdote on this. Our guild was able to 8 man him
this week with 2 healers and five dps stacking on 1 (ONE!) tank. You
just have to make sure the dps is high enough to push the fel fire
phases quickly enough before the lack of a taunt becomes an issue.
CDs to start, heroism after fel fire 1, and CDs again after fel fire
2. The 5 dps were all doing 15k+, and it was rough the whole way, but
possible.

I've seen the cascading effect more than once on 25-man, although your
experience is egregious. Dispels are the most important thing in the
fight--more important than healing, really--and a few things can cause
this:
* One or two healers dominate dispels (or, to put another way, the
other healers aren't doing their jobs). One dies, the other is
overwhelmed and quite possibly dies to a dispel herself. Most likely
scenario based on your description.
* People get overly excited as the boss nears death and forget their
duties.
* Deaths cause healers to panic. They overemphasize healing and
deemphasize dispelling.

Yup, a lot of PvP gear, or gear for the one of two classes you don't
have in your raid.
Armory shows that of the four VoA bosses, I have 25-18-33-30 kills in
10-man and 9 Argaloth kills. Never once seen a drop for my class and
spec.
Last week we had the exact same pair of DK PvP legs as the two drops.
We didn't have a DK in the raid.

Yep. For this very reason, unless it's Monday and I still haven't done
BH for the lock out, 10-man class runs are the only way to go.

I'd say Maloriak was more a 2 in in terms of dificulty. In 25-man we
killed him 2nd or 3rd attempt the first time we saw him.
Nefarian, though, is still proving difficult, more so than Cho'gall,
and so I'd rate him a 10

I know what you mean about Nefarian - we've already spent a couple
of weeks on him, and our best so far is about 35%. He's a tough cookie.
