Post subject: So, what are you playing NOW? Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>games>war-historical (more info?)
The idea for this post comes from both a recourring thread on
comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action ("What have you been playing in... (month)
(year)") and a recent post by Giftzy about the games he currently has on his
HD. Since the former evolved into a good monthly picture of the "State of
Play" (*) - with insights, commentaries, reviews etc. - but it often lacks a
"war-historical" component, I thought about doing a CSIPGW-H edition.
These are the games I currently keep on my HD, either because I'm playing
them or because they are of the "let's keep it because I could wish to fire
it up any moment now". With a single exception, I have not included the
games I have to review.
NOW PLAYING
War in the Pacific: AE (this is the exception - but the review is down the
road for obvious reasons :^D)
John Tiller's Campaign Series (I started playing the German-Polish war
scenarios on September, 1st, - third party included - and I'm finishing them
now)
Panzer General (yup, just re-installed it)
Supreme Ruler 2020 + Global Crisis
KEEPERS
Supremacy at Sea (on hold waiting for the 1.1 patch)
Warship Combat: Dreadnoughts and Battleships
The Complete Carriers at War
Dominions 3
AATF installed over ATF and TSaTC
Hearts of Iron 2 Doomsday + Armageddon + "World in Flames" Mod
TOAW III
Harpoon Classic: Commander Edition
The three original Combat Mission
Medieval II: Total War + Kingdoms + "Deus lo Vult" Mod
Galactic Civilizations II + expansions
Silent Hunter III + GWX 3.0 Mod
(*) The original BBC miniseries, not the American remake.

Waiting that FINALLY Ralph issue new patch so that 1947 scenario for TOAW
can be updated....
Gee, c'mon! )))))
And Vinzenzo it is huge scenario for TOAW maybe biggest but you can play
with your Italian soldiers and together with German comrades defend Europe,
Italia, and part of Eastern Front in 1947.
And you can thank me that we dropped M13 tanks from Italian TO&E and insted
put some kind of licensed PanzerIVh built in FIAT factories LOL

This whole idea of butchering Panzer General in some amateurish way gave me
idea to AGAIN for 12451 time install Panzer General II and some new mod.

Playing Now:
Russo-German War 41-44
CC: The Longest Day
No Retreat - Boardgame via vassal
Ukraine '43 - Boardgame via vassal
ASL Starter Kit 1 - Boardgame via vassal
Hard Drive:
Conquest of the Aegaen

Some really good games put out in the past on pc but the cupboard's
been pretty bare this year as noted by many. I'm spending much more
time on Vassal than with pc games although there are some good pc
games in the pc pipeline that will be automatic purchases: Battle of
the Bulge and Lock n Load Stalingrad.

Gee, when I see current games I miss so much creativity of Dynamix.
Jeff Tunnell is my facebook friend - I see that he has a band as well.
Genius...
After dissolving of Dynamix, many exDynamix employees went to Microsoft to
work on their Flight Simulators etc...
But Dynamix was really great producers...
Let's see:
Project Firestart
Aces of the Deep
The Adventure of Willy Beamish (finished on Amiga)
Betrayal at Krondor (one of best RPG's EVER, finished it 4 times!)
Caveman Ugh-Olympics (played it on C-64 hehe)
Heart of China (good adventure)
Red Baron
Rise of The Dragon (finished it on Amiga)

- Silent Hunter 3 + GWX.
- Silent Hunter 4 & I'm waiting on the u boat missions to arrive in the
post to try them plus the mods. These two DVDs cost $10 each via e bay.
- Taking a break from WITPAE, the kamikaze freighters & the stingy allied
air replacements were both really starting to get to me. I'll restart soon
though.
Tonight I'm playing Reds (Russian Civil War, GMT), yesterday I played
Twilight Struggle (Cold War, also GMT). Where are the computer games about
that stuff?

We're supposed to _play_ the games? Wouldn't that cut in to our time
bitching about them?

In article <28435973-6aee-4d89-929a-
713db60b4ddb.DeleteThis@y21g2000yqn.googlegroups.com>, says...
What's on my hard drive:
Wargames:
TOAW 3
West Front
East Front
Rising Sun
CMBB
Battleground: Waterloo
Battleground: Napoleon in Russia
Battleground: Prelude to Waterloo
(+ a shedload of NIR Project modded battles of the above)
HPS Jena
HPS Eckmuhl
HPS Wagram
HPS Napoleon's Russian Campaign
HPS Waterloo
Campaigns on the Danube
HTTR
Just realising how behind-the-curve my collection is. But with gaming
time so limited and my backlog with regard to the above list so long, a
new offering needs to be utterly compelling for me to buy it. (I took
one look at the new Barbarossa games screenshots, shuddered and thought
"no thanks".)
Non-Wargames:
Fallout 3
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion*
Far Cry 2 (some great points, but ultimately got bored with it)
Falcon 4 Allied Force
Silent Hunter 4
Silent Hunter 3
Currently played games: Oblivion, Fallout3, HPS Jena, CMBB.
Holdit
*I only got Oblivion because it was on special offer and it was by
Bethesda - I guessed I probably wouldn't like it. Wrong, and the backlog
gets even longer...

3D in operational / strategic games - Hi, I just learned that the upcoming Vainglory of Nations by AGEod will use a new 3D rendering engine and that this change from 2D to 3D was largely due, not to gamer demand but to publisher demands. Now, I can understand and agree with the case for 3D...
